After... MUCK After... MUCK Many seasons have passed since everything changed. There are no more masters, no more lights, no more metal monsters, no more endless noise. The city and its constructs are quiet now. It is unlikely any being still lives who remembers 'Before'. Beyond the mountains is wasteland. Even with how much time has passed, peoples of all kinds still make their way to our haven. All are welcome here, though it is left to them to govern their own tribes. We keep to the dark places. We remain hidden. It is better that way. ===================== Cities are overgrown, buildings are crumbling. Cars were left to rust on pavement collapsing into sewers below. Wilderness is reclaiming civilization. Animals moved into places previously occupied by humans, thriving - or perishing - in their masters' absence. Creatures have adapted to their new, strange habitat Zoo animals were freed. Some died, unable to care for themselves, but many survived and have formed their own tribes (herds, packs, etc). After...MUCK is a 'talking animal' wildlife role-play MUCK set in a fictional world after the mysterious disappearance of humanity. Approximately 50-70 years have passed since the cities were abandoned and left to the ravages of nature. Our setting is roughly based on a Northern California/Northwest US environment, but it is not a specific real-world location. Animals encountered are either animals native to that region of the North American continent or descendants of animals that were released or escaped from zoological parks, farms, private menageries and rescues and were able to survive in this environment. (Species List). While the animals are capable of communication with each other, they are 'normal' animals, anthropomorphized to the degree of animals in Disney movies and the like (Bambi, Lion King, Watership Down, Lady and the Tramp, etc). They are not super-intelligent, they do not wield weapons or wear clothing. The only exception to this is the Varg , which is a special case. RP on the MUCK will focus on the animals and their interactions and lives in this post-human world with its new species with which to contend and all of its hazards. Time on the MUCK passes naturally, one IC day = one RL day, as such, seasons and time of day are roughly synched with real life west coast North America. Please note that Nature is a cruel, cruel mistress. Life is hard, and the RP on the MUCK is likely to involve MATURE themes. Strong language, violence, death, injury and possibly sex. Random, Unconnected Stuff: The Skiffy Edition
Just to convince people I'm not dead, I thought I'd throw up a few random things. Actually, I think I'll throw up two posts worth of random things. These are the fandom ones; I am telling you in advance so you can skip this post if you are, e.g., ilyx. 1. I think I am going to sign up for Yuletide this year. Or possibly NaNoWriMo. Or possibly both, but that seems like a really bad idea. Yuletide has the advantage of 1) being new to me, 2) having consequences for failing, and 3) being, well, shorter. And there's a lot of fandoms on the list that are very exciting to me. But there's also a fic idea rattling around in my head that I kind of want to write for myself, and it just might end up being NaNo length. I hope not. 2. Every now and then someone links me to a story on Strange Horizons, and I read it, and I think, "Wow, that was really good. I should start reading them regularly," and then I. . .don't. In case you have better follow-through than I do, here's a couple to get you started: In Stone and In Ashes by Helen Keeble. They are creepy and poignant and kind of brutal, and, now that I think about it, quite suited to the Halloween season (in tone, anyway--don't expect ghosts and witches and pumpkins). They are also from 2007 and 2008, so if you actually do read Strange Horizons regularly you have likely already seen them. 3. Mercedes Lackey has announced that she's a-okay with fanfiction as long as it's licensed under Creative Commons. I've seen some people seem quite shocked that Lackey is taking this step, but I don't really understand why. She's always been keen on fans writing in her world--see her official fan club and its associated zine--and while she asked fans not to use her characters for legal reasons, she's been fine letting other, licensed authors play with them in the authorized anthologies. Now her agent has been convinced the legal issues can be remedied. I wouldn't be surprised if this new policy is what she's wanted all along. But it's still always nice to see an author come out say that they don't think fanfiction is the root of all evil. Not nice enough to actually spur me into writing Lackey fanfic, but still, nice. 4. The MUD I used to play in high school and college is back up online after several years of absence. I have promptly rediscovered my addiction. I am kind of hoping its revival doesn't last too long, just so I can get my life back without having to struggle for it. But it is kind of fun playing around with all the skills and character types I never tried last time around. Also, this time around I know enough to stick my fingers in my ears and go "LALALALA" at any hint of player (as opposed to character) drama. 5. Plans this year are to go to Arisia, Balticon, and Dragoncon. If you're going to one (or all?), this might be a good time to let me know. Or possibly you aren't planning quite as obsessively as I am, in which case, later would be a good time to let me know. 6. I think I mentioned it briefly before, but now is as good a time as any to plug: If you have not read Valente's Palimpsest, you should do so, now. (This doubly applies if I lent you my copy of the book. Ahem.) It is easily the best book I have read this year; it might be the best book I have read in several years, but I need to take a step back from it before I decide that. And I would like to talk about it with people, but that is difficult when no one I know has read it. It is about whether being loved is the same as being good, whether being where we're wanted is the same as being where we ought to be, why we search for the meaning of life, and what we give up in that search. Also, magic as a sexually transmitted disease. Current Mood: relaxed |

Wolverine and the X-Men Mux Wolverine and the X-Men MUX
mo.mushpark.com / 216.93.240.100 port: 2012 A mysterious explosion destroyed the Xavier Institute causing the X-Men to scatter to the four corners of the Earth. A year later, Wolverine was motivated to return and try to put together the wayward pieces. From the future, Charles Xavier helped guide Wolverine in an attempt to fight the future - to prevent the horrific outcome of a Sentinel oppressed world. While in the mean time, Wolverine and the reforming X-Men struggled against the likes of the MRD, the Acoyltes, the Brotherhood and many other villainous sorts. The season came to a close as Wolverine and the X-Men stopped the future from unfolding by removing the Sentinel threat and gave way to a new and even more dangerous outcome, the Age of Apocalypse. The MUX story line opens with Wolverine and the X-Men entering Season Two. The mansion has been rebuilt, many of the X-Men have found their way home, and the doors are open for others to return. Wolverine and the X-Men MUX is a X-Men centric role play environment. Players are welcome to take not only any of the X-type characters, support staff, or individual mutants of the Marvel Universe, but they're also able to play villain characters such as the Acolytes, the Brotherhood, and many other of the X-Men rogues. |
